British Rubbish - collection?

I have recently visited my parents in Bristol and it was sad to see how the look of many areas has deteriorated. People used to take a pride in their gardens but now they seem to be full of rubbish - or bins! Bristol seems to be obsessed with rubbish collection and a separate bin for everything! My relatives are elderly and find it all confusing! Now I hear they may only collect once a fortnight! I live in Spain and we have large bins at the end of the road which serve several apartments/houses and these are collected every night (usually after 12). Any large items put by the bins are either collected separately or are usually taken by locals who make good use of them. I've even seen shoes, polished and placed on newspaper by the side of the bin. Nothing is wasted. The council are now installing bins which are fairly small above ground but hold quite a substantial amount below in large bins and these are emptied less regularly, but still within a few days. All this for £100 pa !!!

Seems like Spain is on the ball with recycling then.
Reply:It is crazy over here in UK, I know its all in a good cause, but a local man here got fined for putting a potato in the wrong bin and the binmen refused to empty the bin then because it had supposedly been contaminated!





I just put all my stuff in our green bin in a plastic bag (dont know if im supposed to do that though!)

It`s OK where I live....at the moment.


But when I read the other posts here, it proves that the nutters are in charge of the asylum.

Reply:The bins will only be emptyed fortnightly , ok , but just what is next , maybe the post person will decide to only deliver every other day ? We pay the Councils to empty our bins weekly , it's all to do with Europe ! The sooner we get out of that , the better .





Why is it that others decide how our country is run , when it should be us the citizens , after all it's us who have to live in our country not them.
