How to get the best shine on leather shoes?

I wear shoes like "Allen Edmonds". I can't seem to get the same results as the professionals when shining my own shoes. Who has a step-by-step recipe, from cleaning, to edge dressing, to polishing for shoe shining. Provide a list of the types of products used.

How to get the best shine on leather shoes?
my mom swears by vasoline. i have tried it before and it works. rub the vasoline on the leather and then wipe off excess with soft cloth. the leather will come out shiny and soft.
Reply:Ever heard of a spit shine? Take some regular kiwi cake shoe polish rub it in generously, and buff it out with a shoe brush. Now (and here's the secret to a great shine)spit lightly on the leather, and use a nylon stocking and buff briskly over the spit that's on the leather.I know this sounds unconventional, but an old boyfriend who was in the army taught me that trick. You won't believe the shine.
Reply:Those wax impregnated sponges work great. When I was a kid we used wax %26amp; elbow grease. The wax sponge takes all the work away.
Reply:When my husband has to shine his military boots he uses Kiwi. He uses a match and lights the kiwi in the countainer for a couple seconds. He then uses the cap to extinguish the fire. He has a medium sized shoe brush and puts a little Kiwi on the brush. He then brushes the boot. It creates a nice lasting shine.
Reply:CALFSKIN, GALA SILK CALF, EVERSNOW %26amp; ANTIBES CALF %26amp; GRAIN LEATHERS

Use Allen-Edmonds conditioner/cleaner to remove surface residue and to keep leather soft and pliable. To achieve a fine luster, wipe shoes with a damp cloth and allow them to dry at room temperature. Then, apply a coat of Allen-Edmonds shoe cream or polish with a cotton flannel polishing cloth or horsehair dauber and allow to air dry. Remove excess polish by brushing with a horsehair brush and buff to a desired shine.
Reply:I was going to say "spit shine" but someone beat me to it.

Thanks to the previous answerer for telling me how to do it properly. I just used to use spit. It actually works surprisingly.

Question if that person is watching the question - don't you get black polish (or whatever colour you're doing) on your hands? Or does the fact it's already buffed off mean it's clean(ish)
Reply:You could go to a store like payless, and near or on the counter they have shoe shine kits it works best if you use the kits directions..Also try the old spit and polish' but never you wood cleaner trust me..
Reply:Kiwi shoe polish
