Are these rules too strict concerning the School Uniform?

I go to a Catholic School, so the rules were already pretty strict. But now, they threw all these new rules at us that seem harsh:

The school uniform must be worn properly at all times while on school grounds and on the way to school (if you walk or take the bus). This includes before and after school. And by properly, the mean shirt tucked in, skirt knee length, shoes polished, and only one button undone.

Only the uniform sweater is allowed (as seen in photo). No other coats or hoodies are allowed.

The uniform must be worn to ALL school club activites, even on weekends!

Students helping out at a Sunday Mass must come in their school uniform

In order to receive the student discount (free) for after school sporting events, you must be wearing your school uniform. And if you do not wear it properly, you can get a detention.

And now, the nearby mall has been given the authority to give detentions to students not wearing their uniforms properly (they say we cause trouble)

Here's a photo of the uniform:

I dont think its fair that you have to wear your uniform at the mall and on weekends. But at least your uniform isn't ugly.
Reply:i think the mall and the school events part isn't fair! but, that's catholic school for ya! i mean especially the mall one! i'm glad i go to a public school. lol at least your uniform is cute though! are there any restrictions on hair and make-up? could you please add those too, if there is any. thanks!
Reply:HECK NO ur school is toooooo strict y don't u change schools??
Reply:Did anyone explain why the school requires uniforms in the first place?

Perhaps if you knew why, you'd be able to handle it better.

PS: When I was a kid it was never explained why certain school kids wore uniforms. I didn't know and my friends who had to wear them didn't know. I'm pretty sure my parents didn't know either. Do you know now?
Reply:Making the mall give detentions is pushing it. What if it mgets really cold and the sweater doesnt keep you warm? BTW cute uniforms.
Reply:ok first of all they cant do that with the mall, the mall is public property and they cant inforce there rules there, if they do its illegal and they are just trying to scare you...they think you will just take the detetion and bite it, its not school property they have no legal standing at the mall....also as far as the no coats or hoddie only school sweater......unless you live sumwhere where rain is a rareity and dont snow they can do that either.....they can't tell u on days that its pouring rain and snow that you cant wear a proper coat to keep you warm and healthy....if you have nice weather year round i can somewhat understand that,....if not then you students and parents need to get together and adress this with the school, the dress code is too strick and if you dont have nice weather all the time the school should issue at there own cost ....not at the cost of students or parents for there school uniform coats if they dont want you to wear anything but school issued sweaters......they cant tell you come to school in the snow in a sweater and risk getting sick or ill.....they just simply cant do that...remeber you students are paying lots of money to attend these schools you have a say.......people of officials recact to numbers, if everystarts to not say protest but voice your concerns and quams about these new rules you can do something about it...it just takes the courage of one person to say hey this aint right and it needs to change,,,one person to get the ball moving on the counteract.
Reply:I feel for ya bc I go to a Catholic school too. Wearing the unform correctly during school is kinda the point of wearing a uniform, but on your way to and from school is crazy! The button thing is understandable. My school only allows the school sweater too. It's weird that you have to wear it to school functions on weekends. Mass is acceptable. You have to wear your uniform to the mall!? =O That's nuts.

Yeah, I think your school is going a bit out of line.

But think of this: Ppl in the military still have to wear their uniform to and from work to show their respect, so I guess you can think of this like showing respect to your school. But after what they're making you do with your uniform, you might not want to give any respect. . . I wouldn't ;D

And I still can't believe that they make you wear it to the mall.

Good luck =)
Reply:yeah i think they are going too far with the mall thing and stuff. i go to a catholic school and we dont have to wear uniforms ar all but our dress code is pretty strict considering we dont have to wear uniforms like we cant wear sweatpants unless its on the day they say we can and they have to be our school sweatpants so like thats kinda strict but your school is VERY strict
Reply:that is definatley not fair. i mean, i understand that you have to wear it at school, and prperly, but at the mall ? after school ? on weekends ? that is totally NOT FAIR. i could not live if i was forced to do that. although, the skirt is cute.
Reply:that is mean but my school is meaner we need to do everything you listed above and we need to wear specific shoes and socks in a specific color and and always your hair in a pony not a bun and if we dont do these we get 1 strike 3 strikes and it goes on ur recordst but the mall thing is wierd if our teachers see us with boys or pants or a mini skirt the principal talks to us and we cannot wear any makeup
