Would you feel uncomfortable if you saw this at work?

There's a new janitor at work, but he looks different than other janitors. He's wearing well well ironed dockers and shirt. H'es got very clean polished shoes. He's got a very well groomed beard and a very good haircut. He has a very good built, not the typical fat or very scranny janitor. I don't know why, but I feel uncomfortable going to the restroom and seeing him scrubbing the toilet or the urinals. Sometimes there's several engineers in the restroom all fat and badly dress, and the janitor is the only one who looks like someone there for business.

What would you think of a janitor that's better dressed and better looking than a lot of people at the office?

Would you feel uncomfortable if you saw this at work?
I would talk to him. He has dignity and pride and deserves a lot of respect. Sounds like someone interesting and not afraid to do what it takes to feed himself and his family.

Janitors are an interesting group of people. This might be his retirement job or his "other" job.

Many of the janitors I've run across in city employment come from diverse backgrounds. One was a a new immigrant reputed to be a renowned surgeon in Asia but did janitorial work because he hadn't learned our language well enough yet and needed a job, and the job site was convenient via public transportation from where he lived. Later he got a job as one of the scientists in the lab for the same department. Eveyone loved him.

What about a math PhD pumping gas or someone with a masters degree delivering frozen foods or working as a policeman? With the job market as bad as it's been for those in the middleclass here in America, it's not uncommon now to see displaced persons working any job they can find.
Reply:that the janitor is friggin hot! lol
Reply:I feel the man likes to look his best it doesn't matter if he's mopping floors or cleaning toliets.
Reply:i dont kno he sounds hott..i would try to catch him alone in the bathroom... lol maybe he is a CIA officer....lol is that waht u were thinkin?
Reply:So is your issue that he doesn't fit *your* image of what someone with his job should look like, or is it that he dresses better than all of you engineers?

Perhaps you and your engineer buddies should learn from the example and dress more professionally yourselves.

Sounds to me like it is the lot of you that have the issues, not the janitor.
Reply:I'd kick myself mentally for holding onto stereotypes %26amp; then I'd smile, wave and go on about my life. It's good to see someone who takes a measure of pride in their appearance and work.
Reply:He takes pride in himself and his work..Any job worth doing is one worth doing well!! People like him are hard to find.
Reply:I would think that he actually takes pride in his appearance regardless of his job. A man to be admired!
Reply:Good for him! He may not make much, but it sounds like he'll live longer than the rest of your engineering colleagues. But who knows, he's probably studying for a degree part-time or something.
Reply:Why not strike up a conversation with him to find out more about who he is? People are always more than their jobs indicate.
