what makes us pregnant ladies crave something so bad? Also, why do some ladies crave things like shoe polish?

What causes cravings during pregnancy?
I was told the cravings because of either the more intensified sense of smell that makes you want something (in my first trimester i craved pickels so bad i could taste them long before i saw them) and i have also heard it has something to do with all of the different hormone levels. who knows for sure i have heard so many different things from books drs i think its one of those things they just aren't sure of so they write down whatever sounds best to them. i also had cravings for pop sicles and tomato juice during my pregnancy
Reply:craving weird stuff is called pica, i crave soap! lol i drink soapy water and has to be warm! lol not that soapy so its dangerous just has to have a little bit of taste to it,and not like a glass full just when i was my hands will cup the water and have a little sip! Gross aye! hehe have had in all my pregnancies,any my mum used to eat matches! apparently both are both are quite common!?
